Exercise 2: Property Manager

Create a Property

Create a new delivery property in any account using New-Property.

You will need to know a suitable -GroupID and -ContractID to use. You can find these values using Get-Group and Get-Contract. You will also need to provide a suitable -ProductID. You can find a list of available product IDs using Get-Product.

Add two hostnames to your property

Using Add-PropertyHostname, add two hostnames to your property. You can use any hostnames you like, but they must be unique across all Akamai properties.

It is recommended to use <your hostname>.edgesuite.net hostnames directly, with DEFAULT as the certProvisioningType (use the same value for cnameFrom and cnameTo). This will auto-create your Edge Hostname and bypass Domain Validation.

Remove one hostname from your property

Delete either one of your hostnames from the property using Remove-PropertyHostname.

Update the rules

Pull the rules for your property using Get-PropertyRules, and update them such that they no longer contain errors. Typically, this involves setting the default origin hostname, the Enhanced Debug Key (or you could just remove the Enhanced Debug behavior altogether) and the default CP Code.

You can use a PSCustomObject, single JSON file or snippets as you wish. Save the result of Set-PropertyRules to a variable so you can inspect any errors which remain. All errors must be removed before the next step.

Working with a PSCustomObject is typically quicker for small changes, but it requires some understanding of how to add and remove members from objects, which could be tricky. Using JSON may be simpler in the short term.

You do not need to create a CP Code. You can find a suitable one using Get-CPCode, or configure the CP Code behavior to use the new Default CP Code option. You can find an example of the format for this by configuring the behavior in the Property Manager UI.

Activate to staging

Using New-PropertyActivation or its alias Deploy-Property, deploy the property to Staging. You will need to provide a suitable -NotifyEmails value, which can be your own email address.

Deactivate from staging and delete the property

Using Disable-Property deactivate the property from Staging, and then delete it using Remove-Property. Remember you need to wait for your property to be fully deactivated before you can delete it, which typically takes about 15 minutes.

You can check the progress of the deactivation with Get-PropertyActivation.
